Our litter is now almost 5 weeks old. All 7 babies are doing wonderful. They are cute, curious and beautiful.
They walk right up your arm and I can also put them on my shoulder. They are not afraid and they know to trust my hand, so they step up to be transported back into the cage.
So friendly and so fun to watch.
I separated the dad with the boys in a different tank, to give the mom a bit of piece and quiet to prepare for the delivery of the next litter any day now.
She has 4 girls with her at the moment, but 3 girls will leave to their own tank in a couple of days, leaving the mom and one daughter to help with the newly arrived babies.
Our house is turning into a gerbil home where we have cages in every room almost… LOL.
The babies were also introduced to the running wheel. Well that was a lot of fun!
They were very curious about it and I am sure they had as much fun as I did. I am slowly turning the wheel to give them the idea of what it is.
After a while, one black baby got it! Sure enough it was a male. I have a theory that males use the running wheel much more than females. Maybe I should use the wheel to sex the baby gerbils.. (yeah, probably that would be inacurate 😉 )
Oh I hope I can get a set of the newest litter for Christmas for my daughters. They have been bugging me for an animal and I can’t have dogs or cats because I where I live. Gerbils are great pets like I have said breed them at one time but found it was very hard to sex them before the pups were having litters so I ended my gerbil time when I went into the Coast Guard to some new families which was a great sucess. We are all set on cage just need two for campionship male or females does not matter to us. Would call you but my daughters are home right now maybe talk with you during the week.
